The hard work of democracy is now ready to be carried on by the most educated, diverse, and tolerant generation this world has ever seen. We did not get here on our own, however. It took hard work from our family, and our friends, but also our education system. Never before has our education been so important. In this fast-paced 21st century economy, education, and not just any education but a great education, has never been so important. Good schools do not just spring up out of the ground, they are funded, are well maintained, and serve as a place for growth-not constraint. Great Falls is lucky to have some of the greatest teachers that the nation has to offer, but those teachers can only do so much when they are having to pay for a large part of supplies out of their own pocket. And by the way, they can no longer claim this as a tax write off. In addition, most teachers come to school early and stay late, working for free, all so that their students have the best environment possible to thrive in.

I do not want to be someone who just talks about how great teachers are though, I want to be someone who rewards them for their work. I have seen first hand, every day for the last thirteen years how hard these people work. Now, it is time for someone to step up, and fight for not only the teachers but for the schools that they teach in. A student should come to a school that is warm in the depths of winter and is safe. They should not walk in and see their floor lifting up from the foundation, or have to wear their winter jackets inside because the boiler is malfunctioning. These are basic things that teachers and students alike need. This is not some government take over, this is taking care of the next generation. I would not be here, my classmates would not be here, and millions of others like us would not be where we are today without the excellent work done by our teachers and by our schools. That is why it is my main task to ensure that our schools are funded, to make it a little easier for teachers to pay the bills, and give our students the tools they need for success.
